Karen Hadley, Research-Driven Content Writer and Strategist

About my work

I write content that is accurate, well sourced and built for the people who will rely on it to make decisions. Over the last few decades, I have written more than three million words: close to a million on healthcare and more than two million on addiction and recovery, plus technical and trade content for construction, testing and technology firms.

My background is not only writing. I spent seven years in chiropractic practice management and held frontline and management roles in a drug rehabilitation network. I also spent three years as a content strategist, planning video and blog content and website layouts. Before that, I ran promotion and marketing departments for nine years at three organizations, including trade show operations in high tech. I know how content, marketing and sales work together, and what makes them pay off for a business.

How I work

Every claim I write can be traced to a source you would be comfortable defending.

  • Primary and authoritative sources first. Government data, institutional research and original studies, not secondhand summaries.
  • Figures cited where they are stated. I cite sources that state a number directly, rather than numbers I had to derive or estimate.
  • Clear exclusion standards. I avoid sources that are biased, outdated or not authoritative enough for the claim.
  • Written for the real reader. I research who the audience is and what they care about before I write, so content speaks to customers, not just about the product.
  • Human judgment on every piece. I use modern tools where they help, but every fact and every sentence is checked and refined by me.
